Wynberg Boys’ Junior School had a successful recycling drive led by students Adam Cronje and Tanay Kooverjee, aiming to raise environmental awareness through competition. Over two months, they collected significantly more recyclables, diverting over 4,000 kg from landfills. The recycling drive empowered students and highlighted the impact of collective action in recycling efforts.
Global Recycling Day is a time to celebrate the impact of recycling in South Africa. At Plant the Seed, we’ve worked tirelessly to embed sustainability into schools and communities—diverting over 143,000kg of waste, training thousands of learners and staff, and supporting small-scale waste collectors.
Six schools, one mission: driving lasting change! In partnership with MetPac-SA and Safripol, we implemented the Zero Waste Toolkit in Sasolburg, equipping and empowering schools with the tools, training, and ongoing support needed to divert waste from landfills and foster a culture of recycling.
In an age defined by environmental challenges, the concept of waste has taken center stage. From overflowing landfills to plastic-choked oceans, the consequences of our consumption patterns are impossible to ignore.
