Design thinking is an integral component of many innovative fields of work and research and is a core component of our progression of intelligence and innovation. Design lies all around us, often unbeknown to most of us. What most of us don't see is the process-driven thought and observation that goes into designing even the smallest item.

This module blends the field of design with the wonderful and wide world of nature and more specifically, biomimicry, to bring a design-centred project that challenges learners to observe and extract inspiration from natural patterns and processes to be moulded into innovative ideas.

This module is more relevant than ever to the learners wanting to make effective differences in the way we live our lives. 

How much do we really know about how the everyday products we use were actually made; or where the material needed is sourced; or who was involved in the processes that brought the product into your hands? This module takes the learners on a journey of unpacking all the details of the processes and resources used in producing, transporting and disposing everyday products.

Learners are tasked with identifying a product they use relatively often, and modifying it to become less harmful on the environment and human health; more local, and to become a part of the functioning and growing Circular Economy.

This project encompasses Project-based Learning and challenges the learners to learn through the process of better understanding how a particular product is made and then attempting to better that to be geared toward a more sustainable future. 

This module deals with the key concepts of Resource use and Conservation by challenging the learners to rethink about their EMS market day product. The learners will be challenged to assess to overall impact of their products in terms of the resources used in the production, transportation and disposal phases. They will be tasked with redesigning their market day product to be less wasteful, and to form a part of a Circular Economy, rather than a Linear one. 

This 8-part module challenges the learners to identify a local waste issue in their community/school and develop a contextualised waste campaign to create awareness and action within their community/school. Through this learner-driven process, the learners will uncover the process that most waste undergoes from natural resource extraction to waste disposal. They will link the concepts of waste and natural resources together in the process of developing a waste campaign. 

This module embraces Project-based learning, a methodology which challenges the learners to think outside the box and learn through the process, rather than through information reception. It is relevant and exceptionally engaging for the learners involved.
