Aims & Objectives

These lessons explore the interconnectedness of gender inequalities and climate change which at first glace are seemingly separate entities, but upon closer glace, are far ore connected than we think. Learners will be exposed to the severe gender inequalities which exist within all levels and contexts of society in South Africa. They will explore this inequality through the lens of climate change, illustrating the fact that there will be a gender differentiated impact of climate change between men and women. Through the module, learners will activate their role as agents of awareness within their contexts by creating informative awareness posters deigned to educate readers on persisting gender-climate issues. 

What you will learn

• Lesson 1 | Immerse Learners are introduced to the connection between gender and climate change and engage in an empathy activity to set the scene for the module. This lesson aims to solidify learners’ understanding of the two central topics of the module namely, gender inequality and climate change. 
• Lesson 2 | Understand  This lesson expands on the foundational knowledge set in lesson one by further defining the gender differentiated impacts of climate change. Learners will come to understand the complexity of this topic as they prepare to become agents of awareness. 
• Lesson 3 | Perspectives  This lesson is all about turning theory into practice. Learners dive deeper into the topic by pairing up to create an informative awareness poster that creates awareness on the gender differentiated impacts of climate change.  
• Lesson 4 | Empower  This final lesson provides learners ample time to round up their poster designs as they start preparing for awareness activation in their school, or community.
